At Mamas Retreat all our massages come with a complementary peppermint & lavender foot soak in epsom salts. You will feel calmer & more relaxed in preparation for your massage.

Epsom salts provide many health benefits. Magnesium and sulphate are both fine minerals that can be absorbed through our skin and are taken into our bloodstream where they immediately go to work inside our bodies. The magnesium ions break apart from epsom salt molecules and relieve stress by promoting the production of serotonin and reducing the effects of adrenaline. Magnesium also plays a role in the production of energy in cells, helping us to feel invigorated without causing feelings of restlessness or anxiety. Just as skin sweats to remove toxins through pores, these same pores also allow minerals in. Getting magnesium this way means it’s less affected by our gut activity, stomach acids and digestive enzymes. When the liver and stomach are bypassed more of the magnesium can go directly into the bloodstream. Magnesium is depleted whenever we are under stress or feel anxious. It has anti-inflammatory properties making it useful for the treatment of asthma, gout, muscle cramps & aches, pain and eczema. It can also lower the acidity of the blood and flush out toxins.

Epsom salts are safe to use in pregnancy – they help to relieve muscle aches and pains, reduce swelling, soothe skin and provide stress relief. Be sure not to have the water too hot when soaking though. The Epsom salts we stock for sale & use in our foot treatments at mamas retreat are chemically pure, food grade and meet strict standards. They are available to take home after massage.
